About Us

Dr. Lindsey Lira M.D.

Dr. Lira grew up locally in Bristol, IN and graduated from Elkhart Central High School. She played NCAA Div I softball for two years at Campbell University before transferring to and graduating from Goshen College. The highlight of her time at Goshen College was a service term abroad in Costa Rica and Nicaragua.

She earned her doctor of medicine at Indiana University School of Medicine; during medical school she spent a month serving and learning all over Guatemala. After achieving her M.D., she completed her residency at Saint Joseph Health System Family Medicine Residency in South Bend. During residency she was able to travel to Cameroon in Africa and worked in a variety of clinical settings out of Mbingo Hospital. Mbingo initially was established as a Leprosy settlement and still provides treatment today to patients who suffer active disease or disability from late treatment.

Dr. Lira is married and has four children. She enjoys spending time with her family and reading.

Luke grew up just down the road in Sturgis, MI, and graduated from Sturgis High School. He attended Bethel College (University) in Mishawaka, IN, and graduated with his BSN degree. After graduation, he worked as an emergency/trauma nurse at Memorial Hospital in South Bend for 4 years before doing a year of travel nursing with his wife. During their travels they spent time in the Washington DC area and Albuquerque, NM. Luke and his wife returned from travel nursing to attend graduate school, and Luke jumped back into his job in the ER at Memorial Hospital. While earning his graduate degree, Luke spent two semesters doing clinicals with Dr. Lira, so he may look familiar to some of our patients! He graduated with his Masters in the Science of Nursing - Family Nurse Practitioner degree from Indiana University South Bend and is excited to serve patients in the Edwardsburg area. Luke is married and has one child. Outside of work, he enjoys spending time with his family, doing things with his friends and church family, and outdoor activities–especially rock climbing.

Our Testimonials

I went without a primary doctor for a decade or more (I was not much on going to the doctor). I just "took a chance" with Dr. Lira and made an appointment with her for a minor issue and it was THE BEST decision of my life.  After a couple of bouts with poison ivy early on which she easily mended, a few years later I ended up with a cancer diagnosis.  I couldn't ask for a more amazing doctor in Dr. Lira. When I finally made it back to her after the litany of specialists I had been seeing (neurosurgeon, radiologist, oncology), she had already read the health encyclopedia they had been sending her.  I was afraid and didn't know what to say at that first appointment back.  I didn't have to say a word: she just welcomed me back, pretty much knew my story and started treating me where I was at.  I felt heard at every appointment. She was never in a rush to leave.  She answered all my questions and kept a close eye on me while supporting me through my cancer journey. She is an amazing doctor and human being. Basically, make your appointment now.

Angela Evans

Edwardsburg

My husband and I have been patients of Dr. Lira since moving to Edwardsburg in 2015. She has always had a great bedside manner and takes the time to listen to your concerns and questions. Her dedication to her patients is glaringly obvious when she decided to stay in our community when a group practice moved out. We are very lucky to have such a highly educated, warm and competent medical professional stay in our community!

Our Father extends his good wishes to Dr Lira on the opening of her practice here in Edwardsburg. Robert Knox served this community well over 60 years. He started his practice in a small office just down the street on US 12 and built the brick structure Dr Lira now owns, in the 1960's.
Our dad believed his calling as a physician, was to know his patients in his community and bring them back to health as quickly as possible. We can attest to the many calls he took at home-day and night. He was accessible to his patients.
Whether it was for back pain, suturing up a laceration on a child's arm, helping older patients with pain or removing a hook from a fisherman's hand, he was there.
His patients loved him too.
One patient, in the early days, paid our dad in morrel mushrooms for his service. Our mother, Doris, we should mention, helped our dad set up his practice and would occasionally work in the office. They were both servants in their beloved community.
Our father was a quiet calm force. He did his job and made people well again.
He is grateful as are we, for the community's support all of these years and wish Dr. Lira all the best in caring for the people of Edwardsburg and the surrounding area.
